Dear Supporter,
Hello, I’m Caitlin Compton an elite Cross Country Skier in Minneapolis, Minnesota training towards the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. I am looking to form beneficial partnerships with local companies and organizations.
Two years ago I was recruited to the Central Cross Country Ski (CXC) Elite Team, a Regional Olympic Development Team based in Hayward, WI, consisting of athletes training and competing together to earn spots on World Championship Teams, Olympic Teams, and the US Ski Team. The CXC Team requires 100% commitment to the training as well as a demonstrated potential for top results both Nationally and Internationally.
I have solidified a 5th place National Ranking and earned two National Championship Titles over the past two seasons. I have also been a member of both the US Cross Country World Championship Team and the US Biathlon World Championship Team. I have both competed in World Cups and won the Overall Domestic Super Tour Title.
I spent last year competing in Biathlon, the combination sport of rifle marksmanship and cross country skiing. After only 6 months of shooting I finished 37th at the World Championships in front of a crowd of 30,000 spectators, the top US women’s result in over 6 years. I also competed in the US Cross Country Skiing Nationals, in Houghton, Michigan, where I won the 5K Skate race and was 3rd and 4th in the Skate Sprint and 10K Classic events, qualifying for World Cup events.
I have recently been accepted to the roster of In the Arena. This program enables Olympic Caliber athletes, to work with youth within their communities, while providing a training and living stipend. My community service project is in conjunction with the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board focusing on the Youthline group. Youthline is a free program for children ages 11-17 working to engage “at risk” inner city kids in a variety of outdoor activities, as well as practical crafts and field trips. The program makes daily use of the many parks and trail systems within the Minneapolis area.
My goals for this season include winning Super Tour events and qualifying for the January World Cup races in Vancouver, Canada on the 2010 Olympic courses. I hope through those races to qualify for the 2009 World Championships in Liberec, CZE.
I am working hard on forming Corporate and Community partnerships to help offset living and traveling expenses beyond those that the CXC Team and In the Arena can support. I am hoping to raise funds during the next year and a half to help support international training and racing necessary to qualify for the Olympics.
Whether or not you are able to support me at this time please follow my progress and results towards the Olympics at this website www.caitlincompton.com.
Sincerely,
Caitlin Compton
