Training With The GIRLS!
The best part of living and training in Minneapolis, MN is the awesome group of women I have to train with. We could possibly gather over a dozen ladies on a Saturday morning for a number of awesome workouts!
My favorite workout of choice would have to be the newly paved Afton River Road Hill! It is a great section of low traffic road that winds up from the St. Croix River Valley to the corn fields south of downtown Afton.
(L-R) Audrey Wber, Katherine Himes, Johanna Winters, Carolyn Bramante, Caitlin Compton
We (The Afton Girls) owe a lot of credit to both my boyfriend (Ben Kremer) and the relentless Dodge Spirit.
Today’s workout was 7 X 4 mins, 6 X 3 mins, or a combination of whatever you felt like enduring for the 45 minutes before the group cool down. At this time of year we are beginning to shorten the recovery times between intervals and so today’s rest was a little shorter then 4 minutes. The cool down is time to chat about what we are all doing after the workout and to get in our sprints of 5 seconds followed by 55 seconds of recovery skiing 5 times. This is a protocol that Bryan Fish encourages us to do after hard efforts because it helps flush the lactic acid after intervals better then just an easy cool down ski.
If you would ever like to join our morning interval group please do not hesitate to contact me by email ccompton2003@yahoo.com and I can tell you the schedule and meeting times this fall.
